Datacollection

Collecting empirical data is a crucial element of the feasibility study. Most of the data will be collected through online questionnaires: a questionnaire at the institutional level, a questionnaire at the department level and a student questionnaire.

In addition to the questionnaires, data are also retrieved from international databases, mainly focused on bibliometric data and data on patents.

The datacollection consists of two stages: the pretest and the pilot.

The pretest has been analyzed and the pilot survey has been amended. We are in the pilot phase of the project now.

Pilot

More than 150 institutions received an invitation to participate in the pilot study. In the first week of November the surveys were released and the data collection started. Institutions received technical specifications on the process of data collection (if you do not receive information on that, please contact us). The timeframe for completing the questionnaires is seven weeks. Because institutions confirmed their participation at different points, they have different closing dates:

Group I: Institutions having received access codes before 19 November.

Group II: Institutions having received access codes after 19 November.

Group III: Institutions having received access codes from 20 December onwards.

On the right side there is a ‘relevant documents’ section, containing useful background information for answering the surveys (i.e.: glossary, printable version of surveys).

In addition we maintain a frequently asked questions section (FAQ) and a helpdesk on the website. You can address your questions here and we will answer them.

Releasing Surveys: 1st week of November

Closing Date: Group I : 20 December 2010

Group II: 28 January 2011

Group III: 20 February 2011
