U-Multirank: a multi-dimensional global university ranking: the feasibility study

Objective

The objective of the project is to develop a feasible transparency instrument that can contribute to enhancing the transparency of institutional and programmatic diversity of European higher education in a global context and test its feasibility. The general intention is to create a transparency instrument that will have a global outreach, potentially covering higher education institutions of all continents.

Stakeholder driven approach

The inclusion of the perspectives of stakeholders is regarded by the consortium as a vital instrument to build a coherent transparency tool, to assess and gain social acceptance for it and for the dimensions and indicators we will develop for it. European Commission involvement

When it comes to the various missions of higher education institutions and their performance in these fields increased transparency should make it easier for students and researchers to make an informed choice on where and what to study and where to work. Offering accessible, transparent and comparable information will furthermore help institutions to better position themselves and improve their development strategies, quality and performances. The European Commission therefore supports several complementary initiatives, this project being one of them, which will contribute to the EU objective of enhancing transparency about the different missions and the performance of higher education institutions and research institutes (see also http://ec.europa.eu/education/higher-education/doc1649_en.htm).
